Viterbi Email is hosted on a Microsoft 2016 Exchange Server. Advantages to using the Viterbi IT Exchange Server Email over USC’s Email system are as follows:
- Group calendars.
- Sharing of calendars and contacts.
- Send emails on behalf of another user.
- Increased storage quota
- Daily backups.
- Secure web portal to retrieve your emails, view your calendar and access your contacts.
- Calendar, contacts and emails synchronized across different devices including Windows computers, Apple Mac computers, iPhones, Windows Mobile OS Phones. You may inquire with the Viterbi IT Service Desk via the web portal http://viterbi.usc.edu/servicedesk or email engrhelp@usc.edu if you would like to know if your computing device works with the Viterbi Exchange Email Server.
Viterbi School of Engineering faculty and staff have an email account on the Viterbi Exchange Server. Such service is currently available to the following academic departments: ASTE, BME, CEE, CS, EEP, MFD, ISE and ITP.
Your email address will be in this format: username@vsoe.usc.edu or firstname.lastname@vsoe.usc.edu (users have opted to use their USC email address whereby incoming emails are set to auto-forward from the USC email server to the Viterbi Exchange server).
You can access your Viterbi email using various email clients such as Microsoft Outlook (Windows), Apple Mail (Apple) or the web version of Outlook (aka Outlook Web Access).
Using the Web Version of Outlook (OWA)
The web version of Outlook (OWA) has most of the same features as the software version yet because it operates through your web browsers, it requires no configuration and you do not need to own the Outlook software. The web version of Outlook can be accessed from any computer with a browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer is preferred) and Internet connection.
- You may access the web version of Outlook at: http://vsoemail.usc.edu
- Logon using your Viterbi username and password.
A downloadable PDF to using Outlook Web Access is available here.
Using the Web Version of Outlook (OWA)
If you own the software version of Outlook (Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016), it can be configured to connect to your Viterbi account; however, due to the complexity of configuring the software version of Outlook and the limited number of resources available, configuration support is limited to an online connection only. We do not offer support for offline access and synchronization. Please navigate to the Viterbi IT Knowledge Base for downloadable step by step instructions.
All faculty and staff at USC have a USC Email account. It is a web based system that uses your USC NetID login credentials to access. At Viterbi, it is the primary email system used by faculty. It is recommended that Viterbi staff forward their USC email to their Viterbi Exchange email account.
Please note Gmail for Faculty is now available. For more information, please click on this link http://itservices.usc.edu/gmail/.
