The mouse connected right away but it took a little time for the A1016 KB but it finally connected & worked for several days until now. It work earlier today but quit. Put new batteries in the A1016 & re-tried again but still nothing. Our old USB KB still works okay. I even tried the A1016 on an iMac OS 10.6.1 & still nothing.
What else can be done?
I was able to solve my problem with a bit of logic. First, Don't throw away that Apple model A1016 Wireless Keyboard, because it does work well with newer Macs!
I determined from my own experience and reading some other posts and questions that model A1016 Wireless Keyboard is not compatible or not compatible. It's probably due to some Apple unique bluetooth standards/protocols.

Nonetheless, I have an Amazon Basics Mouse that I travel with, just in case I need a mouse. It works fine with my MacBookPro , but it is not directly compatible. The Mouse has its own USB thumb (nano) dongle inside, which must be inserted into a USB Port connected the MacBookPro before it can be used. I took out the Bluetooth dongle from the Amazon Basics mouse and plugged it into a USB port hub connected to my Mac. Once I did that, the keyboard was immediately visible in Bluetooth preferences and was easily paired by entering a code generated by my Mac. Now it works great and I am very Happy! I am guessing any windows compatible bluetooth dongle would also work.

The mouse/bluetooth dongle I used is here and is called a 'AmazonBasics Wireless Mouse with Nano Receiver' and can be viewed here:
